Walgreens Is In Need of Support

This post brought to you by Walgreens. All opinions are 100% mine.

Were you aware that negotiations were going on between Walgreens and Express Scripts late last year? I actually had no idea there were any, and I wasn’t expecting that the two would still have to negotiate after they’ve been partners for quite some time. It wasn’t until I found out that Walgreens needed the support of their loyal customers that I paid attention.

The negotiations between these two were about the provisions Walgreens wanted to include in their new contract. These new terms were bigger discounts on prescription drugs for men and women in the military, steadier rates for medicines, and 90-day refills of prescription drugs. Express Scripts didn’t acquiesce to these terms. Hence, the negotiations were futile and Walgreens’ contract as pharmacy provider in Express Scripts’ network expired on 31st December 2011.

For patients under Express Scripts’ program who buy over-the-counter and prescription drugs from Walgreens, this would mean having to look for other pharmacists. This would even mean driving greater distances for some just to get their fill of prescription drugs. This would also mean that they can no longer access Walgreens’ 24/7 pharmacies and drive-thru facilities.

As upsetting as it may be, Walgreens is striving to do something about it. They’re trying to work something out for military troops who are under TriCare so there wouldn’t be any disruption of service. Prescription Savings Club at Walgreens is still in effect to make it easier for people (even Express Scripts members) to continue doing business with Walgreens. They even have an ongoing promo for the entire month of January where membership fees for both individuals and families are discounted.

Therefore, if you want to lend your voice in support of Walgreens’ cause, make your voice heard, or stay updated with the latest news, please like the fan page of Walgreens on Facebook. You may also follow Walgreens on Twitter.
